Chicago Glass (UK) Ltd removes scratches from glass panels whilst the glass remains in-situ,

meaning the glass stays in its frame, and your scratched glass panel doesn't go to landfill.

We repair hairline scratches you can barely feel, right through to deeper scratches that may have been caused by tools dropping on the glass, to vandalism. Our technicians will restore the glass back to the BSI standard for newly installed glass.

We work on curtain walling, window glass, balustrade panels, bi-fold and patio doors, shopfronts, office partitions and more. 99% of scratched glass cases we receive in can be repaired, all without replacing the panel.

Serving construction sites, commercial and residential properties across London, Kent, Surrey, Essex, the Midlands, Birmingham and further afield.

Call 01634 735 616, or use the enquiry form to describe your scratch damage and we shall be in touch.

How Does Professional Scratched Glass Repair Work?

How Does Professional Scratched Glass Repair Work?

A professional glass scratch repair, sometimes called glass polishing, sees our technicians create conditions to cause the glass particles to flow back into the displaced area or scratched area caused by the damage.  It is carried out on-site with the glass still in its frame*.

Our technicians are trained in-house, and use professional equipment.  Take a look at our gallery showcasing typical results.

*on very minor occasions we may ask for the glass to be deglazed, we shall advise you of this during your initial enquiry.

Why Repair over Replacement?

Why Repair over Replacement?

Many of you may be asking why you should have the scratch(es) removed by our team, compared to replacing the scratched panel(s). The team here recognise the expense of replacing panels, from the product cost, installation cost, impact on timelines or your business and it also reduces waste going to landfills.

One call to 01634 735 616 and we can tell you whether your scratch can be repaired, provide you with a price and advise our availability.

How to Describe Your Damage When You Get in Touch.

How to Describe Your Damage When You Get in Touch.

The more you can tell us upfront, the faster we can give you an accurate quote.

Here is what helps:

  1. Amount of Damage: The size of the damaged panel and/or roughly how much scratch damage you have on your glass (the approximate coverage of scratch damage). See below for how we measure scratch damage.
  2. Depth of the scratch: Can you feel it with a fingernail, or is it only visible in certain weather conditions.
  3. Location of the damage on the panel: Is the damage is 20mm or closer to the edge of the frame, or 50mm for corner damage.
  4. Which face of the glass: Is the damage is on the internal or external face, or both
  5. Access: is the damage on the external upper levels, and what access is available
  6. Glass coatings: Is there any coating on the glass that you are aware of. This is often something added / discussed when the glass is purchased.

How we Measure & Quantify Scratch Damage: To help with the scope of works, we work and quantify the damage in A4 areas. For example:

  • if you had 1 x scratch that was 15cm long, this would be 1 x A4, or if you had a cluster of scratches that could all fit under the same 1 x A4 area, this would also count as 1 x A4.
  • If you had a scratch that was 50cm long, this would be 2 x A4 areas.
  • If you had 2 x scratches, both 15cm long, but one at the top of the glass panel and one at the bottom of the glass panel, this would be 2 x A4 areas, as each non overlapping zone counts as a separate area.

If the scratches cover the whole of the panel, please advise the dimensions of the panel i.e.. 2m wide by 2m high.

Strugging to capture that scratch on a photograph? Scratches can be almost invisible on a camera, even though you can clearly see them. Place a piece of tape, or a pen (not permanent marker) next to the damage before you take the picture. This provides us with a reference point and can make the scratch more visible.  Attach the photo to our enquiry form.

We repair scratches on window glass, doors / bi-fold doors / patio doors, curtain walling / glass facades, balustrade panels, roof panels (external face), office partition panels, to shopfronts / restaurant facades.  If you are unsure if we can repair your glass, call us and we can advise.

Can scratches on glass be removed? Can you really remove scratches from glass? Even if the scratches are deep can they be removed?

These are types of questions you may have typed into a search engine, and ones that we also get asked a lot of the time. The answer is : Yes, 99% of the time, scratches on glass can be repaired/removed.  Our technicians on a daily basis, repair glass that has been scratched using our glass polishing process.

The times we cannot repair the scratched glass includes:

  • within 2cm of the framework (unless the glass panel can be de-glazed)
  • panels of glass smaller than an A4 piece of paper
  • textured glass (where the scratch is on the textured side)
  • where the glass has a coating on the side we will be removing the scratch from (we can remove all the coating, and re-coat for some coatings)
  • inside a small fish tank.

Our technicians travel across mainland UK. For London and the surrounding counties (Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Hertfordshire, Hampshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire) we aim to attend site within 48 hours of your quote acceptance. However, we shall always advise current lead times when you enquire.

Yes, we can provide a free no-obligation quotation for us to undertake the repair. If another party is covering the costs, we will need written confirmation from them accepting our quote and our terms and conditions, before scheduling any attendance.

This is the one area we are slightly more cautious. Within 20mm of the frame edge (50mm at corners), there's an increased risk with glass polishing, because of hidden chips or nicks under the frame, and increased risk of damaging the framework. We can work in those areas on an "all care, no responsibility" basis, or if the glass can be de-glazed ready for our arrival, we can work on the glass on trestles, before you get it re-glazed. We will talk you through the options.

"Amazing service! I had a badly scratched patio sliding door which now looks absolutely perfect. Very friendly informative staff member who tidied up after he finished. I am thrilled with the result." Karen (Google Review)

"It’s a rare and genuinely pleasant experience these days to find a company that under‑promises and over‑delivers. The quality of the finished work was impeccable, with a surface that was completely indistinguishable from the original. This was no straightforward job either – three combi‑oven doors that were not only scratched, but also had heavily ingrained limescale which had further compromised the surface. Despite this curve‑ball, the end result was outstanding. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them." (Google Review)

"Thanks for your services today, your engineer was excellent and really helpful ,will definitely recommend your services" S Works (Email Review)
