Can scratches on glass be removed? Can you really remove scratches from glass? Even if the scratches are deep can they be removed?

These are types of questions you may have typed into a search engine, and ones that we also get asked a lot of the time. The answer is : Yes, 99% of the time, scratches on glass can be repaired/removed.  Our technicians on a daily basis, repair glass that has been scratched using our glass polishing process.

The times we cannot repair the scratched glass includes:

  • within 2cm of the framework (unless the glass panel can be de-glazed)
  • panels of glass smaller than an A4 piece of paper
  • textured glass (where the scratch is on the textured side)
  • where the glass has a coating on the side we will be removing the scratch from (we can remove all the coating, and re-coat for some coatings)
  • inside a small fish tank.

Our technicians are all trained in our glass polishing method, and will use the most appropriate method for getting the scratch out of the glass. Read more about our glass polishing process here.

All our technicians are mobile, we come to you to repair your scratched glass. They travel across England, Wales and Scotland.  Our sales team will be able to advise when we have a technician in your area, and our lead time. For London and the surrounding counties, we aim to be with you within 48 hours of your quote acceptance.

Yes, we can help.  We can provide a free no obligation quotation for us to undertake the works.

If the scratches have been caused by someone else, and they will be paying for the works to be undertaken, we will require the person paying the bill to provide written confirmation of the quote acceptance.

If the scratches are on the external face of the windows, above ground floor level, we will require suitable access to allow us to reach the scratched area - please speak to our team for further information.

Where scratches are within 20mm of the framework / 50mm for corners, polishing out the scratches here increases the risk of glass failure or frame damage.  The increased risk comes from our technicians not being able to see any flaws that may be hidden under the frames, such as nicks and chips in the glass.

We can undertake the work for you on an all care no responsibility basis, or alternatively, if you can deglaze the glass, we can remove the scratches on trestles that our technicians carry onboard their vehicles.

Chat to one of our team, to discuss your options.

Scratches can be removed from most types of glass; our repair process will restore the finish to the British Standards for the appearance of newly installed glass

Yes, glass can break. We avoid polishing within 20mm of the perimeter in case there is underlying damage under the framework, as this could lead to a breakage. We will always advise you of the risks if your damage is on a certain type of glass.

Due to this, we cannot resolve sandpaper scratches around the edges of the glass, unless the glass is removed from the framework.
