With high rise glass buildings on the increase, and with structures incorporating new designs, some traditional height access methods, may not be feasible. If the building already has facade access systems in place, glass polishing/restoration by rope access is a viable option for any defects on glass.
Our team can undertake repairs on glass facades, atriums, curtain walling, glass canopies, external faces of glass balustrades, rooflights, and even glass that is low level but cannot be accessed from ground level.
Replacement of glass at high level can be a complex operation. Our glass polishing and glass restoration services, are all provided by our rope access/abseiling team, providing you with an ideal alternative for when you have high level glass defects.
Our glass polishing abseiling team are trained to IRATA Level 2, who work under the supervision of a Level 3 supervisor.
By holding an IRATA Level 2 qualification, they have shown that they have a minimum of 1000 logged hours, and 12 months experience at an IRATA Level 1 position. The syllabus for Level 2 covers theoretical knowledge of rope access with regards to the safe use of the equipment and techniques, plus practical application of rigging techniques, knots and carrying out a range of rope access manoeuvre.
We ensure that safety harnesses are LOLER inspected every 6 months and that the technicians check all equipment prior to use.
Our technician can work from any of the fall access systems below:
Eyebolts / Single Anchor Points permanently affixed single point anchors, provided they have been tested within the last 12 months, and 6 months if class a, as in accordance with the Fall Protection Regulations. We shall require proof of this before we undertake any abseiling.
Davit Arm System a permanent solution for those buildings where access to the facade is required frequently. Like the eyebolts above, we will require proof of testing of compliance (semi-annually) and for rope access (within the last 6 months).
Dead Weight Trolley System where irregular access to the glass facade is required, we can provide a dead weight trolley system, a standalone, portable, and non-destructive fall access system.
Working at Height
If the damage is more than 2m high, please let our team know so we can discuss access arrangements. Our technicians are unable to work off ladders, and only carry a hop up with them.
To ensure that we can work at height, all of our technicians have safety harness training, and some hold the following qualifications.
Saema - launched at the end of January 2021, the Saema User Training was a way for those who work at height to be assessed on their understanding of the process and equipment involved. The part 1 theory test is taken remotely, and once past enables the technician to undertake the onsite practical training, which relates to the systems used on-site.
IPAF 3a & 3b - we have several technicians who can operate Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) including scissor lifts, cherry pickers, and mobile booms on-site.
PASMA - we have a technician who can assemble and dismantle mobile access towers. If this is a requirement, please let us know so we can arrange for the correct technician to attend.
