Trade Clean

Trade Clean

Please be aware that our polishing process does create some dust. Our technicians will mask up the immediate working area and will carry out a trade clean on completion but dust does take a while to settle, so further cleaning after we have left will be required.

Glass Failure

Glass Failure

Where we are undertaking glass repairs, it is to be recognised that there is a low risk of glass failure whilst the repair process is carried out. This may happen if there are unforeseen flaws within the glass' structure or excessive stress points on the glass fixings. In such occurrences, Chicago Glass (UK) Ltd will not be held responsible for glass replacement, or any costs relating to glass replacement.

Access & Working at Height

Access & Working at Height

Access Our technicians will require safe and easy access to the glass. If they are unable to safely reach the glass and undertake the restoration work, an abortive charge will be applicable. Please see below for further information.

Working at Height If any of the damage is higher than 2 metres from ground level, we would require you to supply & erect safe access in the form of a tower/scaffolding/scissor lift (unless specified). Chicago Glass (UK) Ltd technicians are unable to work off of ladders due to Health & Safety. All technicians do carry small hop ups on board but anything higher will require access.

Polishing Repairs - Important Information

Polishing Repairs - Important Information

We will require access to power for our polishing machines.

You are aware that during the removal of the damage, our glass polishing process will create noise and dust.

We work and therefore cost in A4 areas i.e. the number of A4 sheets of paper required to cover all of the damage. For example if you had a 2m x 2m panel and a 100mm scratch on the right hand side and the same again, so a 100mm scratch on the left hand side that would be classed as 2 A4 areas of damage.

Please note however that we are unable to polish damage that is 20mm or closer to the edge of the glass/frame/handrail due to the increased risk in glass failure (50mm from corners).

Acid Etched Graffiti Additional Notes: This process involves removing the ‘crust’ of the graffiti on the surface of the glass using a fine blade to leave a smooth finish but leaving etching on the surface glass. This etching is polished out of the glass using a rare earth compound to leave a smooth clear distortion free finish.

Weld & Grinder Spatter Additional Notes:  As discussed the process involves first removing all of the metal particles that are imbedded in the glass and then chemically cleaning the damaged area to remove any remaining metal oxides, burn marks or stains. This will leave small white frosted dots where the hot metals have burned into the surface of the glass. To remove these dots we need to abrade the surface of glass to the bottom of the dots which will haze the glass which we will then polish clear with a compound.  The result will be clear glass but, depending on the depth of the dots there may well be distortion in the glass which should not be evident looking through the glass at 90° but may be noticeable if viewed from an angle.

Resin Repairs - Important Information

Resin Repairs - Important Information

To restore impact damaged glass we clean any fragments from the damaged area before layering in or injecting resin which we cure with UV light. The resin is shaped to match the profile of the existing glass and then polished to a clear bright finish.

Please note however that this will not be an invisible repair and there will be a join line/scarring where the resin bonds to the glass. The structural integrity and profile of the glass will be restored.

We will not require access to power for our equipment which is all battery operated.
